Hotel Villa Sonia - Charme & relax

Villa Sonia is at the entrance to Castelmola, one of the most beautiful villages - a village perched on a rock over Taormina from which an unequalled panorama can be enjoyed. It is a historic villa that has been transformed, by the Intelisano family, into an elegant hotel with all comforts and an excellent restaurant, the “Parco Reale” which boasts not only a large banqueting room but also a spacious and romantic terrace from where you can enjoy an exceptional panorama.

Romantic and restful, among the green vegetation of the Taormina area, near to Taormina yet away from the crowds and confusion, priceless and elegant… this is how Hotel Villa Sonia presents itself. A microcosm of style and refinement, where hospitality and attention to service are paramount. In the heart of one of the most fascinating areas of Mediterranean vegetation, with a splendid view of Etna, Hotel Villa Sonia blends perfectly the beauty of Taormina with the comfort and tranquility of a unique kind of hotel. Cordiality, dedication and discretion from staff that are available 24 hours a day at Reception, to create a personalized service and to best take care of every desire and need of its clients.

Hotel Hotel Hotel

The concierge is available for booking any kind of facility, from babysitting, car hire, transfer with private driver/chauffeur, sending of correspondence, money exchange, daily services, booking of cinema, theatre and show seats to personalized excursions and special activities. Furthermore, on request, it is also possible to organize transfer from/to Catania Airport. The common areas are spacious and comfortable, being furnished with taste and attention to detail paid to the facilities offered.

There are different areas reserved for reading or talking in tranquility and relaxation, in such a way that the hotel, surrounded by pleasant countryside, guarantees its lucky guests a silent and private atmosphere at the same time as being luxurious. The central part of the hotel leads to the garden which goes down to reach the Garden Cottage, where Mediterranean plants grow and flower, such as olives and vines. The trees shade the path which faces Etna and becomes especially evocative and romantic during sunset, offering unforgettable views. Parco Reale is the Hotel Villa Sonia restaurant and has a large, elegant and romantic banqueting salon which is ideal for ceremonies or romantic dinners on the splendid terrace which faces Etna. It is also ideal for the celebration of anniversaries or events that should not be forgotten. A buffet breakfast is served in the salon, on the panoramic terrace or in your room.

Hotel Hotel

In the summer months, you can have lunch, savouring delicacies on the edge of the swimming pool where there is a Grill set up every day. The hotel also has a splendid swimming pool with jacuzzi and panoramic terrace, sauna, a small gym and a small pool and a solarium on the roof with a breathtaking view of Etna. Every day, there is a shuttle service to the centre of Taormina. Guests can also use the TV room, the Internet Point service and free Wi-Fi in all areas, even the parking area and garage. Adjacent to the hotel, there is a small lane which leads to the medieval village of Castelmola, where you can find little alleyways and squares, panoramic viewpoints, numerous shops, typical trattorias and wine bars and where you can taste the famous Almond Wine on the very panoramic terrace of the historic Caffé San Giorgio. For the gourmets we can suggest the restaurant "La Griglia" on the Corso Umberto in the centre of Taormina.

Elke found Villa Sonia in Castelmola welcomes families and children. There are fantastic restaurants and bars in the hotel´s immediate vicinity. Transportation to and from the hotel is good. The staff was competent and had the ability to communicate in foreign languages. The reviewer thought the service was fairly good. Both the quality and taste of the food were pretty good. The reviewer was impressed by the pool. Leisure activities on offer were good. The bathroom in Villa Sonia was more than satisfactory.

couldnt have asked for better. views from the hotel room and pool area and resaturant are fantastic. staff all extremely helpful and willing to give advice and organise car rentals etc. as sicily goes it is good value for money. positioning is perfect for a quiet relaxing break. if i had to be negative about anything (and i really have to push myself) it would be the small sized pool area for the number of guests. luckily it was quiet when we went and this wasnt a problem. Also, like other guests had mention, the early morning dog barking is tedious however with the doors shut and air con on its not noticable and certainly doesnt disapoint. well done villa sonia, a fantastic stay

We stayed with you for four nights, from the 2nd - 6th July and would like to say how much we liked the hotel. In particular we were made to feel very welcome by your friendly staff. Especially we found Adriana on reception and Maria in the restaurant most helpful. Adriana’s enthusiasm for helping us enjoy our holiday to the full was outstanding.

We just got back from 8 lovely days in Villa Sonia. The hotel is beautifully located and very recommendable. We dined very well, booked halfboard which we didn't regret. We were disappointed not to have had a view of the Etna but a room with balcony along the through road to Castelmola. According to the manager our touroperator doesn't book any rooms with an Etna view. They tried their utmost to find a suitable solution but that would only help us out for a few nights because the hotel was fully booked. So we left it the way it was. If you really want to book this hotel, do ask for an Etna view, those rooms have a fantastic view.

Stayed for 4 nights - get room 302 - 304 -they have a private Terrace with a fantastic view of Mt Etna - a great place to watch the sunset whilst downing the local Red Wine and the Pool is just a few yards away. The service was faultless and Adriano The reception manageress was very helpfull indeed . If going to Mt Etna go with SAT tours about 75Euros - it includeds coach - cable car - Jeep and guide and gets you to as near as the summit as possible .

The staff were fantastic, the waiters and on reception. Nothing was too much trouble and we were helped with car rental, taxis etc. Every now and then we'd get a surprise left in our room which was serviced daily. This ranged from a chocolate on the pillow to a bowl of cherries! The pool was fantastic, extremely clean and lovely big towels were provided.

A wonderful hotel with food to die for!” We had our wedding here and stayed for two days after wards. Maria was wonderful with all our wedding arrangements and speaks perfect English! She arranged everything and spoke with my family who did not speak any Italian and helped the event run smoothly from start to finish. Our suite had a spa bath and a magical view of Mount Etna. The staff were all very helpful and pleasant and Castelmola is a beautiful hideaway from the tourist mecca of Taormina.

Visited this hotel in Sept 2002. Fab panoramic views. Outside the main resort of Taormina up on the hillside, you can see Taormina on one side and Mt Etna on the other. A frequent shuttle bus ferries you into Taormina during the day. The best things about this hotel is the peace (as it is outside the town) and the food and wine both are extremely good. Half Board at this hotel is a must, both for the food and because of the location. In my opinion Room 4* rustic italian look Food 5* yum yum Another must see is the pub up in Castlemola, about 4 stories high, very small, but with the most beautiful views and some interesting ornaments (of the rude kind!!), the wine is crap, but it is still worth it!!

Stayed with my partner for a week over the Easter period and enjoyed a thoroughly relaxing break. The staff were friendly and very welcoming, receptionist on arrival was extremely efficient and helpful. We were shown to a beautiful room with the most stunning view of the valley below the hotel and Etna in the distance. There was a delicious fruit basket in the room which was a nice little touch. We found the breakfasts to be very pleasant with a substantial selection of bread, cake and pastries as well as scrambled eggs etc. We were B+B so we only ate in the hotel on one occasion and enjoyed the food and wine on offer. The hotel is not situated in Taormina, but high above the town in the village of Castlemola. It is a good 45 minute walk to the town which we found quite enjoyable although we always took a taxi back! The little square in Castlemola has a quaint bar where you can enjoy the beautiful views and there are 3 or 4 family run restaurants in the village serving authentic Sicilian food. This is not the place to go if you are looking for lively nightlife but if you want a relaxing break I would absolutely recommend it.

We had a family holiday here for 1 week in July 08. We stayed in a 2 bedroomed family suite which was perfect for families with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms with interconnecting lobby. The views from the room balconies was absolutely amazing. To wake up every morning and look out at Mount Etna was priceless. Breakfast and the evening meals were taken on a large terrace also with wonderful views out to Etna. The pool was great always plenty of sunbeds and wonderful service from a really friendly waiter. The staff and manager were delightful, they couldn't do enough to make our stay enjoyable. I loved staying here rather than in the main town of Taormina as it was much quieter and much cheaper. From the hotel its just a 5 min stroll into Castelmola village with plenty of choice of restaurants - go to Gallo Cedrone or ' Mammas' we called it and you'll get a real Sicilian family welcome and home cooking from Mamma and her family. Getting into Taormina town was so easy - we got the free hotel minibus every morning and either got the hotel bus or the local bus coming back. The hotel has real Italian character with lovely articles on the landings and hallways and everywhere was spotless. There were 2 weddings when we were there but they were no problem at all - you get to see Italian locals in all their finery ! Overall this was a fantastic family holiday in a truly unbeatable location. I would highly recommend

The staff... this hotel's most valuable asset by far (inclusive of the expensive wine collection). Reception and the pool area attendant were excellent. Great views of Mt. Etna from pool & restaurant. Castelmola, a very short walk away was charming with a few excellent restaurants & great views. Hotel tastefully decorated and comfortable. Good breakfasts, professional, helpful & friendly staff.

This hotel was stunning!! I love the views it was just so beautiful looking over from the balcony or terrace area where you eat your dinner and you can see the mount etna in the background and whilst we was staying there it was erupting(only slightly) and you could see the lava running down the sides!! I stayed there with my family and i had a standard etna view and my parents had a superior etna view and the only difference in the two rooms was that there balcony was slightly bigger. The food was lovely lots to choose from was boiling hot all week came back very burnt so beware and take lots of suncream!! The hotel satff were very friendly and we had no problems in regards to our rooms at all everythink was perfect the pool is lovely and was warm most days Bar open by the pool during the day had good food!! and prices were fairly reasonable I would defiently recommend!!

We stayed for a week last year and had such a nice time we returned this June. The Hotel is a lovely place to stay, staff are friendly, particularly Jay at the pool and Adriana on Reception. The Restaurant is excellent if a little "querky" at times, not a problem but more entertaining when the service is not what you expect! The Pizza Restaurant in Castlemola is a must for either lunch or Dinner. You are greeted like a long lost friend and the food is superb and not expensive. We hope to return again.

Just wanted to drop you a note to say thank you for a wonderful stay in your hotel during April. My mother and sister bought me the holiday as a 40th birthday present and it is one of the most fantastic holidays I have ever had. Villa Sonia is beautiful with a great location, friendly staff and delicious food. In particular I want to thank the two receptionists who, at my sisters request, arranged for cakes and a bottle of almond wine to be bought to my room as a birthday surprise, they also sang Happy Birthday, it was wonderful. I always think it is important to let people know when they have provided an excellent service, I hope I have succeeded this on this occasion. I will definitely be coming back to Sicily and the Villa Sonia, hopefully next year!!.

This is definitely the place to unwind, eat and drink well, enjoy the Sicilian experience and read lots of books.

All’hotel Villa Sonia tutto era autentico. Grazie.

Hotel Villa Sonia is very nice. Not the best hotel I have ever stayed in but nice. Food was lovely in the evening. We stayed on the Bon Appetit arrangement giving us 4 meals in the hotel and 3 of our own choice outside. Breakfast is continental - ok, my husband loved the coffee he was served every morning. Pool nice. Rooms are quite small though unless you pay for a superior Etna view. We had a standard Etna view. We were lucky enough to have a terrace which we shared with 3 other rooms, but if we hadn't had that I think I might have been a bit disappointed. The village of Castelmola is lovely. Lots of little passageways opening up to piazzas etc. Town of Taormina nice but VERY busy so we avoided it to be honest. The area surrounding Taormina very pretty. Weather was glorious and we had a lovely time. Would I stay again in Hotel Villa Sonia - maybe but its a big world out there. Overall very good
